beats by dr dre wireless case of failure. You would replace the card

Change cheap beats headphones raid 5 controller We currently have a server with 4x500gb sata disks on a silcon image sil 3114 beats by dre solo softraid 5 controller card. I have some concerns over whether the controller will stand up to a failure and also i would like to at a later date add more disks to the array, up to 8 maximum. There are quite a few sata raid 5 cards that can be used with 8 disks, that have some good reviews. But what concerns me is that how would i swap the old controller for the new one without losing my current array? Would it be a simple change card or is it a lot more complex, obvioulsy my concern is i do something that ruins my current array dr dre beats and data. I would be grateful for any help. Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news, but this won't work. The actual raid configuration is contained in the firmware of the card. The disks themselves likely have headers written to them to allow you to recover to the same model of card, in beats by dr dre wireless case of failure. You would replace the card, hook the disks up, and the new card would see the config information on the drives(In a format it understands)And be able to use the array(By"Importing"The disk configuration). As soon as you take the disks off a card and put them on another card, you've broken the array. I currently use a highpoint 2220 8port sataii controller, with 8x320gb disks in raid5.It works great, but my previous card(A 3ware model)Wouldn't migrate the disks over i have to offload the data to other hard drives and dvds before importing into the newlycreated array on the highpoint. This will be the case anyt ime you are using a new model of card, unless you are moving between two models from the same manufacturer, and they confirm you can migrate ahead of time. But that is a longshot.Since si doesn't make an 8port(That i know of), you are going to need to make a backup, create the new array, and restore the data.
